Can a wife discharge/give zakaat to her husband as he is in debt?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-Salāmu ʿAlaykum Wa-Raḥmatullāhi Wa-Barakātuh
In principle, Zakāt cannot be given to a person’s direct ascendants, descendants or amongst spouse.
Therefore, in the case under inquiry, you cannot direct your Zakāt to your husband irrespective of his condition. [1]
