Question
I am from living in Kuala Lumpur. There are amany people come from India
for madrasa donations. They buy expensive tickets. What money can be used
for buying tickets. Whether they can buy tickets from zakaat money given
to madrasa? Whether teachers of madrasa can eat the food bought for
madrasa students.
Answer
Muhtaram / Muhtaramah
In the Name of Allāh, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāh wa-barakātuh.
One of the conditions for the validity of the Zakaat is that Tamleek is necessary. Tamleek is to make the recipient of Zakaat the (Maalik) owner of the Zakaat (Tahtaawi). It is not permissible to purchase tickets with Zakaat money if the purchaser is not a recipient of Zakaat.
You are entitled to enquire from the collectors where your funds have been spent. It is better to discharge the Zakaat personally to people who are need in your area. Alternatively, you may give the Zakaat to some reliable, Allah fearing person or organization who will dispose of the Zakaat in the proper way according to Shariah.
If the food has been purchased with Zakaat funds, it is not permissible for those who are not recipients of Zakaat to partake of the food.
And Allah knows best
