Question:
Maulana Sahib, I have a question: When someone makes a mistake in their Salah that requires Sajdah as-Sahw, before the first Salam for the Sajdah as-Sahw, do they need to recite all the Du’as, such as Tashahhud, etc.?
Answer:
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-Salāmu ‘Alaykum Wa-Rahmatullāhi Wa-Barakātuh.
When a person commits an error in Salah that necessitates performing Sajdah as-Sahw, it is obligatory to perform this prostration before the final Tasleem. One does not need to recite any additional Du’as apart from the Tashahhud. According to the Hanafi Madhab, the procedure is as follows:
- After sitting for the final Tashahhud (the recitation of “At-tahiyyatu lillahi…”), the person will make one Salam and two prostrations (Sajdah as-Sahw).
- Before performing the two prostrations, the person does not need to recite any additional Du’as apart from the Tashahhud.
- Once the two prostrations are completed, the person will return to the sitting position (Jalsa) and recite the Tashahhud again, followed by Salawat (Durood) and Du’a.
- Finally, they will complete the Salah with the Tasleem (saying “As-salamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullah” to the right and then to the left).
Conclusion:
There is no need to recite all the Du’as before the first Salam for Sajdah as-Sahw. The Tashahhud should be recited, then one will make one Salam to the right and the two prostrations of Sajdah as-Sahw will be made, followed by the completion of Tashahhud, Salawat, and Du’a as usual, and then the final Tasleem.[i]
And Allah Ta’ala Knows Best.
