Question
My enquiry is regarding the TV is it ok to keep,I use to watch news,sport and general nature programmes and islamic programmes,I am very confused some people say its ok to keep and some don’t, Is it ok to keep so the kids can watch cartoons and kids programmes, If you cant keep it can you sell it on, or do you have to destroy it?

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāh wa-barakātuh.
The reasons that you cite as benefits of having the TV do not justify keeping one. There are many alternatives to the sources of news like radio, newspapers etc. Westerners themselves are now attesting to the grave harms of TV especially on the young growing minds. Cartoons etc not only inhibits them mentally but also physically. Sport watching has now become a culture. It is addictive. One event after another; In short, it is not permissible to keep a TV. It is detrimental to a person’s Deen and his dunya. Research has shown that most productive businessmen in the world today never watched TV. Imagine the time you can save by not watching TV and use it to read Quran and do Dhikr.
It is permissible to sell the TV.
