Question:

Assalaamualikum

Respected brothers and sisters

I pray you all are well.

It has come to our notice that muallIms and muallimas teaching in certain areas are being paid peanuts.how do you justify a teacher earning R1.100 a month for dedicating precious time in a madrasah.this is indeed a sad reality that Is happening in many maktabs in kzn. When the muallimas raise the issue they are threatened that they will be fired.when we lived in jhb the average salary of a muallima was minimum R3500.

We request you to look into this matter and administration of these maktabs need to wake up

JazakAllah k

Answer:

It has always been our view to take care of the ulama and apas who relentlessly serve the Deen and take care of the needs of our community especially in our makaatib which have been a means to the preservation of Deen in our country.

However, this can only be achieved if all people collectively combine their recourses and consider the remuneration of ulama and apas as they would consider secular professionals.

Unfortunately many committees do not like to see the progress of their ulama and apas and do not make an effort to make them comfortable in terms of their living standard. We therefore, always call on people of the community to financially support this important function of our communities that will protect Deen for generations in our country.

And Allah Ta’ala knows best
