Assalaam-U-Alaykum…
I am planning to keep my son’s name as “Ian”..
But the problem is I don’t know the meaning of this name..
So please do the needful and reply my mail with its meaning…
Answer
Muhtaram / Muhtaramah
In the Name of Allāh, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāh wa-barakātuh.
At the outset, it is important that one keeps good names for ones children. Preferably names of Ambiyaa, Sahabah and pious people be kept. The Ulama have stated that the good qualities possessed by person after whom the child is named rubs off onto the child.
Ian is not an Islamic name. We suggest the name Abdullah or Abdul Rahman be kept.
And Allah knows best
