Question:

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF I CAN DON IHRAM AT JEDDAH AIRPORT AND NOT AT MY TRANSIT AIRPORT. OUR LAYOVER IS SHORT.

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-Salāmu ‘Alaykum Wa-Rahmatullāhi Wa-Barakātuh.

Bearing in mind that the aeroplane will be crossing in line with the Meeqaat, it is necessary for a person to enter into Ihraam before crossing it. Crossing the Meeqaat without Ihraam is a sin, and a Dam becomes Waajib unless the person returns to the Meeqaat. Therefore, entering into Ihraam only after arriving in Jeddah Airport is not correct.[1]

Performing ghusl and praying two Rakats of Salaah before entering into ihram are not conditions; rather, they are recommended acts. Therefore, in cases of difficulty, you may simply wear the Ihraam garments and make the intention with talbiyah before boarding or while on the flight before the aeroplane crosses the line of Meeqaat.[2]

And Allah Ta’ala Knows Best.
