in a kitaab named 100 durood,a duaa marhaban bil qaaileena adlan

marhaban bis salaati wa ahlan appears.it ismentioned ina hadith that, if

one reads this duaa while the azaain is going on,20 000 sins of ones

parents will be forgiven.i would like to know how authentic is this

hadith and in which kitaab it could be found.

Answer

Muhtaram / Muhtaramah

In the Name of Allāh, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāh wa-barakātuh.

The exact words of the narration mentioned in the query could not be located.

The following hadith has been mentioned in Zail-ul-La’aali, but the author says that it is fabricated:

Whosoever says marhaban bil qaileena ‘adlan marhaban bis salaati wa ahlan when he hears the muazzin, 20000 virtues will be written for him, 20000 of his sins will be forgiven and 20000 of his stages will be elevated.

Zail-ul-La’aali Pg.103 Al Maktabah Al Athariyyah

Although the virtue mentioned above could not be located in any authentic hadith, the dua itself has been mentioned in many narrations:

It has been narrated on the athourity of Qataadah (Rahimahullah) that whenever Uthman (Radhiyallahu Anhu) heard the muazzin saying “qad qaamatis salaah”, he used to say, “marhaban bil qaileena ‘adlan marhaban bis salaati wa ahlan”, then he used to stand up for salaah.

Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaibah Vol.7 Pg.125 (Al Maktabah Al Shamilah)

It has been narrated on the athourity of Qataadah (Rahimahullah) that whenever the muazzin came to call for salah, Uthman (Radhiyallahu Anhu) used to say, “marhaban bil qaileena ‘adlan marhaban bis salaati wa ahlan”.

Mu’jam Al Kabir Li Al Tabrani Vol.1 Pg.55 (Al Maktabah Al Shamilah)

There is a bit of ambiguity in the chain of narrators of the abovementioned two narrations. However, these narrations are acceptable, as they are being used to prove the virtues of good deeds.

And Allah knows best

Wassalam
