Question:
We would like Mufti Sāhib to please outline for us the method of performing Sajdatut Tilāwah. Jazākallāhu Khayrā.
Answer:
In the Name of Allāh, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-Salāmu ‘Alaykum Wa-Rahmatullāhi Wa-Barakātuh.
Respected Brother in Islam,
Observe the following Ḥadīth narrated by Hadhrat ‘Abdullāh Ibn ‘Umar
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to recite the Qur’an to us. When he came upon the verse containing prostration, he would utter the Takbīr (Allah is the greatest) and we would prostrate ourselves along with him. [ Sunan Abi Dāwūd 1413]
When a person wishes to perform Sajdah Tilāwah, after reading or listening to a verse of Sajdah, he will say the Takbīr (Allāhu Akbar) without raising his hands and then he will prostrate once, then he will say the Takbīr (Allāhu Akbar) again whilst lifting up his head from the ground and the Sajdah will be completed. He will not need to make Salām to complete the Sajdah nor will he need to say the Tashahhud. [1]
Allāh Ta’āla Knows Best.
