Wearing Gold and Silver Watches [MEN]

Question:

Can a man wear a silver watch or a gold watch? Will the ruling be different for a 9 carat? As it is not regarded as gold/silver.

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-Salāmu ‘Alaykum Wa-Rahmatullāhi Wa-Barakātuh.

Wearing a completely gold/silver watch, or a watch in which gold/silver is the predominant material over other metals, is not permissible for men.

However, if only some parts (e.g. Rotor) of the watch are made of gold/silver and the remaining parts are made of other metals, then there is no harm in wearing it, provided that the gold/silver does not touch any part of the body and the main components (e.g. the dial) of the watch do not consist of gold/silver.[1]

If the other metals are predominant over the gold/silver content (such as in a 9-carat gold watch), then wearing such a watch would be permissible, as it is not considered a gold/silver item.[2]

And Allah Ta’ala Knows Best.
