Question
I was reading about the event of badar and would like to know
Prior to the disbelievers’ leaving Makkah, Shaytaan met them……….
Was this in the month of Ramadhaan?
Are the shaytaan not supposed to be chained?
Answer
Muhtaram / Muhtaramah
In the Name of Allāh, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāh wa-barakātuh.
We need to differentiate between Iblis (The one who refused to prostrate to Adam (A.S) himself and the shayateen that are coupled with every human to incite him towards evil. At the battle of badar it was Iblis himself who presented himself in the form of a human. Furthermore, some of the scholars like Hazrat Zakariya r.a are of the opinion that not all shayateen are chained but only the most rebellious ones.
A further explanation could be that the chaining of shayateen is a bounty specifically for this Ummah. The battle of badr was fought in the 2nd Year of Hijra and it is possible that this bounty was conferred later on.
And Allah knows best
