Question

Is a Hanafi sister allowed to marry a Salafi brother? and would this be a wise choice?

Answer

Muhtaram / Muhtaramah

In the Name of Allāh, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāh wa-barakātuh.

There are many aspects to consider before getting married.  One of the major aspects to keep into consideration is a person’s deen.  The Salafis have certain views which are against the mainstream Islam.  This is in relations to their beliefs as well as their approach to fiqh.  It is possible that the salafi brother has very good character and is pious.  However, it is possible that the differences in belief and practice between the Hanafi wife and Salafi husband could affect the marriage due to arguing and defending ones aqeeda and practice.  Such incidents are common and have led to martial breakdowns.

Therefore, we advice the Hanafi sister to search for a compatible partner who shares same views on these issues as she does.

And Allah knows best
