Question:

What is the ruling regarding blowing over the food? is it true that shaitan blows over the food

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-Salāmu ‘Alaykum Wa-Rahmatullāhi Wa-Barakātuh.

One should avoid blowing on food. It is against the etiquette of eating to do so.

Ibn Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) reported that “the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade blowing into food and drink” [Musnad Ahmad] [1]

It is more in accordance with the Sunnah and closer to proper etiquette to allow the food to cool before eating, for hot food has no barakah.

Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Leave the food to cool, for hot food has no blessing.” [Al-Mu’jamul Awsat of Tabarani, see Majma’uz Zawa’id][2]

As for the claim that Shaytan blows over food, we have not come across any authentic hadith mentioning this.

Note: It should be understood that blowing over the food is not considered Haraam or Makrooh Tahreemi, and it should not be regarded as such.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows Best.
