Forgetting to read a Surah after Fatiha

Question:

I was making up a missed Rakat, after Fatiha, I forgot to add another surah and went into Ruku, I stood up back and read another surah, went back into Ruku and completed my salaah together with Sajdah Sahw.

Is my salaah correct?

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-Salāmu ‘Alaykum Wa-Rahmatullāhi Wa-Barakātuh.

In principle, if a person forgets to recite a surah after Surah al-Fatiha, and remembers before going into the sajdah of that Rakah, he should return to the standing posture (Qiyaam), recite the surah, repeat the Ruku, and complete his salah with Sajdah Sahw.

If he remembers after going into the sajdah of that Rakah, he should continue with his salah and perform Sajdah Sahw at the end.

Therefore, in the scenario in question, the salah was performed correctly and is thus valid.[1]

And Allah Ta’ala Knows Best.
