Is it permissible to fast on a Friday alone?

In the Name of Allāh, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāh wa-barakātuh.
According to the Hanafi Mazhab, it is undesirable (makrooh tanzihi) to fast on a Friday alone. It is preferable to fast a day before or after Friday, if one intends to fast on Friday.

The Mazahib of Imam Sahafi’ (Rahimahullah) and Imam Ahmed (Rahimahullah) also hold the same opinion as the Hanafi Mazhab in the abovementioned ruling. However, according to the Mazhab of Imam Malik (Rahimahullah), it is desirable to fast on a Friday alone.
