Title

How much does one daughter who has no siblings inherit from her parents

Question

How much does one daughter who has no siblings inherit from her parents, and is it a fact that the husband’s sisters inherit from his wife? And what is the nisaab amount for zakaah on gold? I read that it’s 85 grams, and I heard that it’s one thousand rands.

Answer

Muhtaram / Muhtaramah

In the Name of Allāh, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāh wa-barakātuh.

If a person passes away leaving behind only one daughter, she will first receive ½ share of the estate after burial expenses and paying off the debts. The remaining of the estate will depend on who the other heirs are. Sisters-in-law do not inherit. It is incorrect that the husband’s sister inherits from the wife’s estate.
