I have a husband that doesn’t provide for me
Question
Slm , I need help I have a husband that doesn’t provide for me.. We are in the estate agency business, recently I went out to find the client for a property, my husband just took the client through, and how does it work with the commission as I feel I’m entitled to 50 percent.
Answer
Muhtaram / Muhtaramah
In the Name of Allāh, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāh wa-barakātuh.
In principle, it is important to determine the nature of relationship with your husband in the business. Are you both partners in the agency? Are you merely assisting him in his work?
If you are partners in the estate agency then whatever work or properties you or your husband sells, the commission will form part of the partnership and distributed in proportion to each ones share in the business.
If there is no formal partnership agreement between yourselves then you would be considered as assisting him hence not entitled to any remuneration.
And Allah knows best
